Three of Australia’s top senior professional golfers, Terry Gale, Bob Shearer and Ian Stanley have all committed to play the $150,000 Titanium Enterprises Australian PGA Seniors Championship to be held at Club Pelican Golf on the Sunshine Coast from 7 to 10 April 2005.
The Championship will again be staged over 72 holes at the Greg Norman designed course and will provide a tough challenge for the season campaigners, who regularly compete on the fairways of the European Seniors Tour.
Both Terry Gale and Ian Stanley are past Champions and will be keen to recapture the title after missing the event in recent years. Shearer, an Australian PGA and Australian Open Champion in the early 80’s, will also be vying to win his first national seniors title in Australia.
A new concept to be introduced to this year’s event will be an International Teams Challenge to be held on Tuesday 5 April. International teams will be chosen from participating countries and will play a foursomes style event. Last year five countries were represented indicating to organisers that the International Teams Challenge is sure to create some interesting rivalry amongst the visiting senior professionals.
The Titanium Enterprises Australian PGA Seniors Championship will be played for the second time at Club Pelican after Titanium Enterprises secured the naming rights for the Championship in 2004.
A field of more than 90 professionals are expected to contest the Championship with those missing the top 50 cut to play for a $10,000 purse over two days.
The 2004 Championship created headline news back in October when Mike Ferguson won the event in a sensational play-off from fellow Queenslander, Brian Jones.
