Champions Tour Member, Tom Purtzer has confirmed he will play the $150,000 Titanium Enterprises Australian PGA Seniors Championship at Club Pelican Golf next week adding to the already impressive field entered for this event.
Purtzer has five US PGA Tour victories to his name including the 1984 Phoenix Open and has won twice on the Champions Tour since joining in 2001. He is a consistent performer on the seniors circuit placing in the top 10, at least eight times each year he has competed and is currently the number one ranked player in driving distance on the Champions Tour.
“Tom’s participation enhances the growing reputation of the Titanium Enterprises Australian PGA Seniors Championship and boosts the already impressive national and international field gathered for the tournament,” Max Garske, CEO of PGA of Australia said.
Purtzer is taking advantage of a break in his playing schedule to visit his daughter who is attending an Australian university as an exchange student. He first visited Australian shores in 1991 to play in the Asahi Glass Four Tours World Championship of Golf at Royal Adelaide Golf Club and is looking forward to returning to Australia.
A strong Japanese contingent is also headed for the Sunshine Coast led by Takashi Miyoshi and Noboru Fujiike who were ranked 10th and 14th respectively on the JPGA Senior moneylist last year.
Also entered in the event are past Champions Mike Ferguson (2002 & 04), Terry Gale (1997), Ian Stanley (1998), Trevor Dowling (1999), Barry Vivian (2000), Noel Ratcliffe (2001), and John Clifford (2003). As well as Bob Shearer, Randal Vines, Brian Jones, David Good, Scotsman John Chillas, and Kiwi Simon Owen.
An exciting array of activities are scheduled for next week at Club Pelican with an International Teams Challenge and Shoot-out event sure to create a thrilling atmosphere before the tournament proper begins on Thursday 7 April. Spectators are welcome to attend and entry to the event is free of charge.
