Clifford cleans up at 2005 New Zealand PGA Senior Charity Championship

17 April 2005

New South Welshman John Clifford has comprehensively won the 2005 New Zealand PGA Senior Charity Championship. Going into today's final round at the Wairakei International Golf Course three shots clear of the field, Clifford was never challenged by the chasing pack and extended his lead to win by seven shots after carding a final round one-under 71 for a 54-hole total of four under 212.

Victorian David Good consolidated his overnight second placing with a three-over 75 and a three round total of three-over par 219.

Terry Gale (Western Australia) finished one shot further back in third place following an even par 72 in today's round.

The leading New Zealander was Taranaki's Craig Owen who finished in fourth place with a three round total of eight over 224 (rounds of 74, 72 and 78).

The event had a NZ$50,000 professional purse and raised over $80,000 for the associated charity, Child Cancer Foundation.
