Sydneysider Noel Ratcliffe has won his eighth European Seniors Tour title in taking out the AIB Irish Seniors Open by two shots from Luis Carbonetti of Argentina and in doing so becomes only the second man to claim the title twice in the event's history.
Ratcliffe won his first AIB Irish Seniors title at Adare Manor in 2003 and he replicated that performance to finish on six under par 216, two shots ahead of Carbonetti who carded a 73 and three in front of Scotland’s John Chillas, who closed with an even par 72 to finish on three under par 213.
“This is a fantastic moment for me,” Ratcliffe told the European Tour website. “I have great memories of winning at Adare Manor and this is even better because I haven’t won since then. It’s a great feeling to be back in the winner’s circle again.”
Ratcliffe won 60,000 euros in taking out the title which catapulted him into second position of the European Seniors Tour Order of Merit. Ratcliffe also won another €1,750 for the leading Super Senior in the field.
Of the other Australian's competing at The Heritage at Killenard, Victorian Bob Shearer was the next best Aussie finishing at T13, Western Australian Terry Gale finished T19th, David Good finished T31st, Brian Jones T39th and Ian Stanley finished well back in T69th.
