As a youngster in Australia's capital city, Canberra, Garry Overy was considered one of the brightest prospects in Australian Amateur Golf with many tournament victories to his credit. He excelled in school sport, particularly golf, and later became the assistant golf professional at the prestigious Royal Canberra Golf Club.
Garry went onto to win many amateur tournaments from 1968 as well as representing N.S.W. at state level before turning professional in 1973. During his time at Royal Canberra, Garry had the opportunity of gaining some valuable tuition and guidance from 5 times British Open Champion, Peter Thomson, and fellow Australian great & British Open Champion, Kel Nagle.
He later joined the PGA circuits in Australia and New Zealand. After 3 successful years on the circuit, he was offered a very lucrative position as Head Professional at the Kogarah Golf Club, a position he held for five years. On leaving Kogarah Golf Club Garry moved to the far south coast of N.S.W. to take on the position of Head Professional at Eden Country Club. During his stay at Eden Country Club he also became involved in coaching the N.S.W. Junior Team.
Garry left Eden some nine years latter and his exceptional knowledge of the golf swing and the science of golf warranted him venturing to Singapore and teaming up with his long time friend, Alan Murray, to coach the Malaysian National Team.
Garry & Alan then went onto establish 'Champions Golf Academy Pte. Ltd' in Singapore after recognising the need for such a facility within the region to provide an international standard of learning and also better understanding of the golf swing in general. Hytek Gloves International Pte. Ltd. was formed in Singapore early in 1999 by the directors of Champions Golf Academy. An overall ten year plan was drawn up to promote and sell Hytek Gloves initially in the U.S.A., Singapore and eventually worldwide.
