Reigning Australian PGA Senior champion John Clifford has won the Pharmaton-Saujana Senior Malaysian Open by a massive 10 strokes at the Saujana Golf and Country Club located in Petaling Jaya last week.
Clifford, who started the final round with a 10-shot lead certainly made it difficult for any contender with a birdie start to his round. He finished the day with a one-over par 73 for a 214 total.
“No matter what tournament I win, it always feels good," Clifford said. “It is also good to be confident when you go out there. Actually, I always felt I can play well and I played quite well today. I missed a couple of greens and was lucky to finish my round before the rain."
Kuo Chie Hsiung of Taiwan, Clifford’s playing partner in the final round, also shot a one-over par 73 to finish with a total of 224 and the runners-up cheque.
Clifford, now back in Australia, will head to Samoa next week for the SamoaTel Open to be played 28-31 July at Royal Samoa Country Club.
The Malaysian Senior Open is now becoming a favourite for the Australian PGA Senior Champion, last year the event was won by Mike Ferguson, the then reigning PGA Seniors Champion.
