Named after the legendary Bobby Jones from emanating sparks of brilliance, at a tender he was already marked as an outstanding golfer - Bobby W. Jones was born 1945, in Krugersdorp – South Africa.
During weekends and school holidays he headed to the Brynston Country Club (home to players such as Gary Player) to be caddie. Little did he know that would spark a serious interest in becoming a golfer. “Golf is a gentleman’s sports and that is what always intrigued and won my heart and the rest is history”, says Bobby Jones. At the age of ten he subsequently developed into a player. Bobby Jones went to a tour school to become a PRO in 1978 and joined the South African PGA, which he whizzed through with flying colours. For ten years he played for the Sunshine tour and there after his financial state prevented him from continuing with his passion – Golf, until at the age of 50 when he turned senior and subsequently started playing again.
In 1995 SAA sponsored a tournament played over 18 holes, entitling the winner to a sponsored trip to the British Open. Bobby Jones completed a shock professional victory to win the title and represented South Africa in the Senior British Open in Northern Ireland. Bobby Jones has remained on top of his game in the South African Senior Tour and is also a member of the PGA Southern African tour and Senior Tour. Either than playing golf he is also owner of the Observatory Driving range and PRO Shop which was established ten years ago with the opening ceremony led by non - other than Gary Player.
2003 marked the South African Senior Open, which was a 54-hole event. Bobby claimed the NO. 5 sport, qualifying for the Asian Senior Masters due to take place November in Singapore. There is a team of five players from South Africa heading for Singapore. Bobby Jones said, I know all of us are excited about going to Singapore for the Asian Senior Masters, it is a big challenge.
Bobby played in the 2003 & 2006 Asian Senior Masters in Singapore and the 2005 & 2006 Asian Senior Masters Malaysia.
