Suffered from back problems for most of the 2003 season but that did not stop him producing several fine finishes, most notably at the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open when, despite being wracked by pain, he clung on to claim a share of second place, two shots behind winner, Terry Gale.
The tall, affable New Zealander accumulated three top ten finishes during the 2003 season enabling him to end the season in 40th place on the Order of Merit, 29 spots lower than the previous year.
Prior to turning 50, Barry was a regular on the Australasian circuit, winning the 1979 Australian Masters and a number of other events.
