Reid received a physics degree from M.I.T. in 1978 where he played varsity Tennis, Lacrosse and rowed Crew (no college golf). Taught physics on the college level(University of Southern California) at age 21. Received an M.D. degree fron The University of South Florida in 1988.
Completed General Surgery internship and residency and a fellowship in Pediatric Burn Reconstruction. Founded the American Medical Center in Phnom Penh in 2001 and the charity "Operation Kids" Foundation to perform free surgery on burned and disfigured children later that year.
Reid rejoined golf after a 30 year hiatus in 2003 and earned his player's card on the Malaysian PGA Golf Tour for 2005 season. His pro tour scoring average agains the flat bellies was 76.27. Reids nickname on tour is "Doc"
